A lot of the people I know tease me about my obsession with Irish things.  Ireland does not even fit very much into my ancestry, yet I have always enjoyed the culture and products.  I love Irish jewelry, Irish music, Irish festivals, Irish clothing and Irish beer.  A thing I never really thought about but hope to cover in this article is Irish wedding dresses. Most people wouldn’t even think about there being a type of Irish wedding dress. I know I wasn’t aware that such a thing existed. I figured all styles of weddings had basically the same themed dresses with just some subtle design differences.

Irish wedding dresses look nothing like the traditional western style that we are used to seeing. They are more decorous and ornamental. The look is at the same time more down to earth and more ornate. Many Irish wedding dresses convey such classical elements as corsets, often neglected in modern American wedding dresses. The Irish or Celtic wedding gown is designed with modern flare that incorporates design influences from medieval styles, fantasy or the renaissance period.

Many brides to be will chose a Celtic type wedding dress that looks medieval but then have it adapted for uniqueness.  The corset style is popular and good for a marriage ceremony that combines Celtic and Gothic.  Period style dresses are stylish, dramatic and timeless.

Many of the best Irish wedding dresses are custom designed based on the bride’s desire.  The designer will incorporate elements of medieval, renaissance or fantasy styles to create a historical looking gown with a personal flare.  There are also more traditional Irish wedding gowns for the more conservative bride, who is not looking for a historical looking dress.

Whatever you decide on, this type of gown will take you back to an age of chivalry, knights, virtues and romance.  You will feel like you are in an Ireland of old or a fantasy novel with beautiful men and women.  Irish wedding gowns become more popular every year and you may want to consider one if you are about to plan a wedding.
