There are several occasions that are appropriate for creative Irish gifts. You may know someone who is of Irish descent and you may want to give them something extra special for a birthday, St. Patrick’s Day or Christmas.  Even if a person is not of Irish decent or doesn’t know if they are, they may still enjoy Irish culture, products, music or art.  There are many poor quality and nearly distasteful Irish type products, but there are still plenty of creative Irish gifts available too.

Using your creative imagination is an excellent way to show how much you care about someone. Giving a present that requires a lot of thought and effort says a lot about your feelings and relationship to that person.  They won’t forget it.  Many people of Irish descent are very proud of their heritage which is why an Irish gift that is creative is perfect for them.

But, some presents may not be well received.  It depends on the receiver of course, and hopefully you know them well enough to know what they might like.  It is usually best to avoid creative-type Irish gifts that may be distasteful or insulting.  Many people immediately think of leprechauns, potatoes and alcohol when thinking Irish.  Try to be a little more creative.  Items like obnoxiously large mugs or silly t-shirts are not going to impress everyone.

In order to truly touch the heart you might need to do some research.  A friend of mine found out a lot about Ireland and traditions when she was asked to be maid of honor in an Irish styled wedding.  The husband was from Belfast.  They wanted to have a lot of the traditions of Ireland in their ceremony so I was asked to do some research, since my friend knew I liked to do that kind of stuff.

Even though I didn’t come up with a really great creative Irish gift very easily I did find a lot about some traditions from Ireland, especially when it comes to weddings.  I found out that a groom visits the bride’s family on the day before the wedding.  They prepare a traditional goose dinner for him.  I think that is where the saying, “Your goose is cooked” originated.

Another interesting fact included not letting the bride’s feet lift off of the ground. She should have at least one foot on the ground at all times.  It was believed that fairies would steal her away.  That is kind of a cool little tall tale.  I was impressed with the many traditions even though I was really only looking for creative Irish gifts for brides and grooms.

I finally did find a great little item that may start a whole new tradition in the bride’s family. Tradition says a magic handkerchief is carried by the bride on the day of the wedding ceremony.  Later it is used as a bonnet for their first born child.  The handkerchief is then handed down to the first born daughter for her wedding and so on.

This is just one of the many creative Irish gifts that you can find too if you look into it long enough.  I also thought of making a collection of the wedding traditions from Ireland and framing it for the lucky couple.  I am sure there are more things I could have thought of with all of the research I did.  Hopefully you will find more.
