St. Patrick is one of Christianity’s most widely known figures.  He was a pagan at first.  The holiday of St. Patrick’s Day is based on what is believed to be the date of the saints death in the 5th century, which is also his feast day.  Irish immigrants to the USA began observing the holiday in public in 1737, in Boston.  1766, in New York City,  was the first St. Patrick’s Day parade ever.  But the Irish have observed the holiday for thousands of years.  March 17th is St. Patrick’s Day.
